What has amazed me over the years of attending Conflict is the vast numbers of Fantasy players that show up- this year 75% of the room was Fantasy. Where are all these guys coming from? Seems to be an underground type of thing.
Now 40K is my main thing, and while I play fantasy at some very small and casual point levels, I’m hardly the man for it. Jawaballs and I keep thinking about tossing ourselves into the competitive Fantasy scene, but I think the water is just too deep.
We know the rules, but hardly any of the beardy exploits. Plus there is the huge $$$ buy in, and something else I’ve noticed is that all the armies are 100% no joke- not from the WAAC level, but from the paint and hobby level- everything is well done, themed, and top notch. There is no plague of three colors and primed models only that is part of the regular 40K scene. Are Fantasy players just more dedicated? Jawaballs regularly takes best painted at 40K events, but I don’t think he could do it on the Fantasy side. Even the “best” of my goblin and dwarves just doesn’t stack up.
