Pushing further into the Island of Blood in a mad quest for the Phoenix Stone the vile rat men lay a trap for the high elf garrison…
Another round of Elves vs. Skaven as I command the Elves and Teddy the Skaven this week at the club, High Elves always feel like I’m playing Eldar.
I deploy my spear/bow infantry in the center to go pew-pew with the bows, cavalry on the flanks, backed by the great sword, and the griffin in-between.
Skaven deploy center and side heavy and take first turn pushing the rat-ogres right up the side to my cavalry as the clanrats start marching up the center.
I dodge two round of Skaven weapon team fire, including a misfire on the poisoned globe thrower, which is really really bad for the Skaven…
Arrows from the infantry and cavalry soften up the rat-ogres, who charge the cavalry and wipe them out, followed by a counter charge of the great swords who wipe them out.
Griffon rides around and attacks the clan rats lead by the Skaven warboss who is defeated in a personal challenge, followed by routing the clan rats.
On the opposite side of the table the clan rats break my spearmen, as the griffon swings around and finishes them off for the win.
The more straight up Skaven vs. Elves games we get in with this fun set, the more I am at least seeing is the fact that the sides are only “balanced” if you can unlock how they are supposed to be used. Could a beginner to Wargames and the usual shenanigans of Games Workshop figure this out?
Next post is going to examine how to use the Skaven with a unified plan against the elves- especially since the griffon and greatswords seem so over powered…
