I do have to say that GW did a great job with the inclusion of crypteks in the Necron codex. These mix and match units really bring out some of the flavor and fluff in the codex to the tabletop game- masters of arcane science and technology.
I can see so many fun themed lists to build around these techomancers and have begun to experiment with a few ideas as of late- the Djinn of Despair build catching my fancy as of late…
We can scale this to a lot of different point levels but the main thing is to unlock an entire conclave of crypteks so that means two overlords as a start. Stormlord, although pricey is the first- we need his lighting busting potential in a moment. Second overlord could be generic if you are playing smaller points or perhaps the Traveler for mind in the machine and a single shot tachyon arrow fun. MiM will also help our crypteks and the arrow is 50/50 since it is a single shot and we won’t be chronometroning it. I’d probably also go with command barges for these guys, but again balance the points.
Next up is 5-10 harbingers of despair crypteks with abyssal staffs. Two overlords means two courts and two of them could be veil of darkness cryptkes- I’d like to add nightmare shroud for some more fun, but the points are stacking up!
Now we need some wound counters for the crypteks- so each group gets five warriors to start, maybe six to eight for the one or two carrying the veil of darkness. The rest of the crypteks go in ghost arks.
We finish the list out with some doomsday arks…
This list has one goal- drop S8 AP 1 templates on guys. Marines hate it since they don’t get an armor save. Big horde armies just go poof if you hit them with multiple templates and wounds- Eldar players think of a multi-destructor seer council. You bring DOOM to your opponent with the abyssal staffs!
Stormlord lightning and doomsday arks open up vehicles to get guys on foot. ‘Arks drive up and drop templates, veil crypteks port around dropping templates- taking a risk on the scatter.
Lots of templates, lots of fun- more to the Necron ‘dex then just spyders and scarabs!
