Loving My Tomb Blades!

Guys, I just have to say that tomb blades are da bomb!

Sure we have all been caught up in the scarab madness, scarab farms, scarab swarms, and all that- no denying they are good. It has taken me a bit to get over just going right to fielding 3 X 10 of them + spyders- taking a step back to realize I can have best of both worlds. Two with spawners is enough- leaves me that slot for tomb blades- and I’m not looking back.

OK, we can’t deny that I’m a closet jetbike fan, and these guys do fill that fetish, but let’s look at what they bring to the game, and how they fit over all in my list.

I often deploy them in the center (or as close to the center) along with my scarabs and spyders. Stormlord goes for first turn either naturally or with the 4+ so the ‘blades can move out- they boost 24” to either the right or left flank to open up as a distraction. The boost gives them a 2+ save since they have the shadow thingy and that with T5 and two wounds is pretty resilient. They can soak up a lot on that turn, and often do with only a loss or if that.

Next turn, they are ready to start blasting away- not that the blasting is that great- but as a distraction tool suddenly in your face they pay off hands down!

This allows my scarabs to move up mid field and just hunker down for board control.

Depending on what my opponent then does and what it is like on the weaker flank, I may VOD a group in with my cryptek for some added support.

Giving Necrons or keeping Necrons with a jetbike option (a real one, not pseudo like the destroyers) was an awesome move for variety.

Only question is what to use for a tomb blade since of course GW doesn’t make one…

Spikey Bitz has an awesome conversion…

Or, like me (for now) you can use some of the old OOP Necron raiders.
