Magnetic Bases: Part II

Sometime you come up with a good idea and pat yourself on the back…

Other time somebody comes up with the same idea, only better, and you are left wondering- heck, why didn’t I think of that?

With my Saim-Hann Eldar I’ve magnetized all my flight stands, which then carried over to my Necron Destroyers with a construction toy called Magz. Basically it is a magnetic stick, which you build into a puzzle held together by a bunch of magnetic balls. Here is the pic below of the toy so you can get the an idea if it doesn’t make any sense…

I took one of the sticks, painted it black, glued it to the base of the flight stand, and then tapped a flat headed screw into the jetbike/vyper, and I’m good to go. Pics of that below- look where the stick joins the model.

Lots of guys have done this since at the club for their speeders, and Dark Eldar, and then I saw this on some image search to a defunct blog so sorry no credit…

WOW! You know what- what if I cut out a bit of a hole in the bottom of my model and mounted the metal ball as a pivot join to turn the model on like in this pic. I could then have my jetbikes positioned to make it look like they are banking into a turn, or climbing to gain speed- visually even better on the table.

Another idea to file away, I’m not going back and retrofitting anything, but I’m sure with a new Eldar codex there will be some flight based models where this will work very well.
