Saim-Hann: Probe The Defenses Adjust The Attack

Jetbike tactics aside I tend to use my jetbikes for three reasons- to pop light transports and then assault move 6” back with the shuriken cannons, hold/contest objectives zooming in/ out of nowhere on turn five and six, and to probe my opponent. Turbo-boosting allows me to both move fast and get a cover save which means for the most part my bikes are safe from a round of shooting if I put them in harm way. When I face an opponent where I am unsure of what they are going to do, or if a unit is bait or a hammer then I probe him with the jetbikes seeing what happens then pull back and adjust…

Unfortunately the game doesn't allow too much "cat & mouse", even less when you hold your forces in reserve. Using jetbikes to probe is a little risky since they are expensive and are needed for grabbing objectives. I prefer probing my enemy with Prisms.

I disagree. A true Saim Hann list is the most capable of cat & mouse of any 40k army. Extreme mobility with two different sources of out-of-phase movement (Jetbike move and Star Engines) combine to really wreak havoc on the enemy plans. You just have to be careful for the 12" movers who can sometimes catch up.

On top of that, you can play the ultimate shell game when including Eldrad as in Fritz' other posts. If you get first due to the die roll, you can bait out the enemy in deployment only to reposition key elements right before the engagement commences.

If you deploy your forces from the start, (and got stuck with the first turn) you've deployed so that you've split the enemy in two parts. One half of your force has to boost to regroup, losing a turn of shooting. Any turn you have to boost to shift your enemy, you lose out on kills. Do that too many times and contesting objectives becomes very difficult.

True Saim-Hann armies don't need Eldrad... wrong craftworld too. :)
