Eldar Vectored Engines

Always consulting the runes for another angle, tactic, or way to gain an advantage I often re-review the codex listings and upgrades for my units and vehicles as my opponents learn the way of Saim-Hann and its beauty.

I’ve been having some limited success recently with vectored engines on my fire prism which brings it up 180 points with spirit stones and holo-fields. With the VE’s I can now only be destroyed on a roll of two “6”’s initially with the holo-fields- of course assuming I get the skimming glance advantage.

If I am immobilized the fire prism force lands yet still has a full range of fire with the prism cannon turret. It now takes another round of shooting- potentially hitting AV 12 and then contending with holo-fields to destroy the ‘prism on a roll of “5/6”.

More then once I have had my fire prism turned into an immobile gun platform blasting away for another two turns or so before being taken down, not bad for +20 points.

I've learned something about Eldar that I don't think I really comprehended before. In particular about Wraithlords.

The argument in our group is that wraithlords are so much better than dreadnoughts as to make things ridiculous. Recently, the other Eldar player in our group has taken to playing three wraithlords and an avatar. It is insane how many wounds need to be poured into those things.

But...and here's the thing that's important. By just doing 1 wound, you get half your victory points. You have to immobolize a vehicle to do that. Which isn't too hard, but it's a lot harder than doing one wound to a model.

At the end of the battle, I was nearly wiped out, and I still scored a clear victory on points.

Just thought I'd share.

that combo is common on falcons, making them extremly hard to kill, then a unit of harlequins is put in them. . .

Monstro, I agree that the wraitlords do appear very overpowered but your VP observation is dead on. Depending on the mission, move out using mobility to shoot and then when you are ahead in victory points run and hide.

Xander, if I was running harlies in a falcon that is what I would do- I wonder how the new skimmer rules in 5th are going to play out? Perhaps making holo-fields, and vectored engines not worth the points?

i'd like your advice on what weapon you are using on the falcons, seeing how a brightlance seems like a bad idea - you cant fire both that, the pulse laser AND move the 6+ inches required to be able to get penetrating downgraded to glancing..

how does the king of saim hann handle that :)?

Nicolai, I've only recently been running a falcon in my list. Before that it was one fire prism and one wave serpent. I found the lack of holo-fields updrage on the wave serpent didn't make it as robust as I needed it, even with its "energy shield". As for weapons on the falcon, it seems that there is no way to fire them all on the move to get the glance. I've been taking the scatter laser since it pumps out more shots and if I am in a position where I don't need to move to get the skim/glance- maybe agasint a squad that can't hurt the AV then I have a lot of shots to open up with. I like the idea of having a brightlance on it for tank hunting, but with only being able to fire on or the other it probably is a waste of points- and also more so since most of my tank hunting comes from my jetbike warlocks with the singing spears/ witchblades.
